The app guide

One task at a time.

Open a guide for step-by-step instructions and an illustrated example. Start with your workspace, then choose the feature you need.

Getting startedChoose your workspace2 min
  1. Open Taytan Money and sign in with the account that has been granted access. Current access is by invitation.
  2. The app opens in Personal. Use it for household transactions, accounts, and monthly budgets.
  3. Select the Workspace control in the side menu to switch to Self-employed for business expenses, receipts, mileage, and accountant sharing.

On a phone, open the menu first. Changing workspace does not transfer transactions between the two areas.

Personal financeAdd a personal account3 min
  1. In Personal, go to Accounts and choose Add manually.
  2. Enter the institution, account name, account type, optional last four digits, and current balance.
  3. Choose Add account. Select this account when recording transactions or importing a CSV.

The manual balance is the amount you enter; it is not a live bank balance. Do not enter an online-banking password.

Personal financeRecord and categorize spending3 min
  1. Choose Add transaction. Select Expense or Income and check the transaction date.
  2. Enter the description, positive amount, account, category, and any helpful note.
  3. Choose Add transaction. Review the month shown in the side menu and use the category selector in the transaction list to correct categorization.

Keep transfers between your own accounts out of ordinary spending categories. Check your month and source records before assessing your totals.

Personal financeCompare your budget with actual spending3 min
  1. Choose the Budget month in the side menu and open Budgets.
  2. Select Edit, choose a category, and enter the amount you plan to spend. Select Save budget and repeat for other categories.
  3. Compare the recorded spending against each limit in Budget vs. actual. Review uncategorized transactions and any categories over budget.

Budget results depend on the transactions you have recorded or imported. Missing or duplicated transactions affect the comparison.

Personal financeImport bank transactions from a CSV4 min
  1. Download a CSV from your bank. Prepare columns named Date, Description, and Amount; use dates such as 2026-09-09.
  2. Use negative amounts for spending and positive amounts for deposits. In Personal choose Import CSV, select the file, and choose the destination account.
  3. Select Import transactions. Categorize imported expenses from the transaction list and compare the imported count and amounts with the file.

Avoid importing overlapping date ranges: duplicate detection is not confirmed. Automatic bank linking is not active in the current version.

Self-employedSave a business expense and receipt4 min
  1. Switch to Self-employed and choose Add expense or Snap a receipt. Upload one JPG, PNG, WebP, or PDF up to 10 MB.
  2. Enter the vendor, transaction date, total paid, tax included if known, T2125 category, business-use percentage, and payment method. Add a note explaining the purchase.
  3. Select Save expense. Check the saved row and open View receipt to confirm the correct document is attached.

Receipt upload stores the document; you still enter and check its details. Potential claim figures are estimates for accountant review, not a filed tax return.

Self-employedCorrect an expense and review categories3 min
  1. Choose the tax year, search for the expense, and select its pencil icon.
  2. Correct the date, vendor, amount, tax, category, business use, payment method, or note. Choose Save changes.
  3. Review the category summary and Needs review count. Ask your accountant about missing receipts, mixed-use costs, and capital items.

The edit form keeps the existing receipt attached. The current dashboard shows the most recent 12 matching expense rows; use search and export to review larger records.

Self-employedKeep a manual mileage log3 min
  1. In Self-employed go to Mileage and select Add trip.
  2. Enter the date, start and destination, distance, business or personal trip type, purpose, and optional note.
  3. Select Save trip. Review the business kilometres and all recorded kilometres; keep complete source records and odometer evidence.

Trips are entered manually. The displayed ratio uses the trips recorded in the app and does not automatically update the business-use percentage on expenses.

Self-employedExport your expense records3 min
  1. Choose the tax year and clear the search field if you want all expenses for that year.
  2. Choose Share or Accountant export. Check the expense count and receipt coverage, then select Download CSV.
  3. Open the CSV and review the dates, categories, tax, business use, and notes before providing it to your accountant.

The export follows the active year and search filter. The CSV lists receipt information; it does not include the receipt files or mileage log.

Self-employedGive your accountant read-only access4 min
  1. Verify the email address your accountant will use to sign in. In Self-employed open Accountant access, enter that email, and choose Grant access.
  2. The app owner must also add that email as a viewer through the Site Share control. The in-app permission alone does not grant entry to the app.
  3. Give the accountant the app link separately; no automatic email invitation is sent by the in-app Grant access action. Confirm that they can sign in and view the intended expense records and receipts.

The trash icon beside the accountant removes in-app permission. This access covers business expenses and receipts; it does not grant access to personal budgets or to a shared mileage log.
